Douyu overview -- China’s other gaming and esports giant
Douyu is a Wuhan-based Chinese live streaming platform built around video games and esports, often called China’s Twitch. Tencent is the largest shareholder with roughly a 37 percent stake. Douyu and its main rival Huya make up the bulk of China’s game live streaming market between them. The platform launched in 2014, listed on the Nasdaq in 2019, and continues to carry major esports tournament broadcasts alongside individual gaming streams.
The access problem for viewers outside China
For viewers outside China, Douyu’s design works against you. The interface is Simplified Chinese only. Most content targets mainland audiences, and while Douyu has a video category that preserves some past broadcasts, there’s no straightforward way to download or export a stream as a file. Replays aren’t guaranteed long-term either. If a specific broadcast matters to you, capturing it yourself is the only way to keep it.
How StreamRecorder records Douyu streams
StreamRecorder records Douyu streams automatically. Add a creator to your account and every time they go live, the recording starts from the first second – whether your computer is on or not. Recordings are stored in the cloud and available to watch or download whenever you want. No Chinese-language menus to navigate, no screen recording software to run.
StreamRecorder records what your browser session can access. Douyu streams that are geo-restricted to mainland China may need a VPN before the recording can reach them. Once the stream is accessible, it gets captured automatically from the first second.
