Douyin vs TikTok -- same company, different platform
Douyin is the Chinese version of TikTok. Same parent company, ByteDance, but separate infrastructure, separate content library, and a separate user base of over 700 million daily active users. It is not the same app -- content is not shared between the two platforms.
International users encounter Douyin primarily through Chinese pop culture, gaming, and beauty content.
Live commerce and why recordings matter
The Chinese creator economy on Douyin is enormous: the platform drives more e-commerce revenue than most Western social platforms combined, and live commerce is a major part of that. Missing a session often means missing a sale, a product drop, or a performance that won’t be repeated.
Replay availability
Live replays on Douyin are available for 7 days after broadcast. After that they’re gone. There’s no native download option for viewers and no export tool built into the app.
StreamRecorder saves Douyin live replays automatically. Add a creator to your account and every time they go live, the recording starts from the first second – whether your computer is on or not. Recordings are stored in the cloud and available to watch or download whenever you want.
Geo-restrictions and VPN requirements
Some Douyin content is restricted to mainland China IP addresses -- if the broadcast is geo-blocked, a VPN is needed before StreamRecorder can reach it. For publicly accessible content, no account is required.
