Twin Streamers Turn Teenage Social Media Hobby Into Full-Time Content Creation Career
Twin sisters from New Mexico have carved out an impressive niche in the streaming world, building a loyal following that spans multiple platforms. Mya and Myka Montoya, known collectively as the Montoya Twinz, started their content creation journey almost by accident when they were teenagers posting on Musical.ly. What began as casual social media posts has evolved into a full-fledged career, with the identical twins now boasting hundreds of thousands of followers across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitch.
The 25-year-old sisters didn't initially plan to become content creators. Growing up in Amarillo, Texas, after being born in Clovis, New Mexico, they had a father who was quite strict about social media usage. It wasn't until their teenage years that they were allowed to start posting, and their content quickly gained traction on the platform that would later become TikTok. Their natural chemistry and engaging personalities led to frequent features, which eventually motivated them to expand to YouTube in 2016 and later to other platforms.
On Twitch, where they stream under the handle MontoyaTwinz, they've cultivated a community of over 57,000 followers since starting in June 2020. Their streams typically fall into the IRL (In Real Life) category, where they interact with viewers in a more casual, conversational format. Recent streaming data shows they've been putting in serious hours, with 94 hours of streaming in the past month alone, maintaining an average of 210 concurrent viewers and hitting peaks of over 900 viewers during popular streams.
What sets the Montoya twins apart is their collaborative approach to content creation. As Myka explains it, being twins gives them a significant advantage because they can split the workload while bringing two creative minds to every project. They're never talking to a camera alone - they're talking to each other, which creates a more natural and engaging viewing experience. Living together makes spontaneous content creation easier, and they describe their videos as being like a personal diary that documents their growth over the years.
The twins are expanding beyond just streaming and social media content. They're currently working with Volition Beauty to launch their own line of hair care products, including a cruelty-free, vegan heat protectant spray and hair oil. This venture makes sense given that fans frequently compliment their long, healthy hair. They were also nominated for a Shorty Award in 2020 for Best YouTube Ensemble, recognition of their collaborative content style. With nearly 600,000 YouTube subscribers and growing audiences across all platforms, the Montoya Twinz continue to prove that authentic, sibling chemistry translates well to digital content creation.
